“ Discovery of a New Mechanism Supporting Plant Cold Tolerance —A Mechanism for Mitigating Oxidative Damage of Chloroplast—”

Cold stress severely inhibits photosynthesis in summer crops such as cucumber, leading to impaired growth. In cucumber, Photosystem I (PSI) in the chloroplast is particularly sensitive to low-temperature conditions, yet the detailed molecular mechanism has remained unclear. In this presentation, we present our recent finding that degradation of the NDH complex is involved as a principal cause underlying PSI photoinhibition under low temperature.
